My name's Mike Vanderslice.

You can e-mail me at hikeymikey at hotmail dot com.

Here I am on top of Ben Nevis, in Scotland, the highest point in the British Isles, in January 2003.

I got the nickname "Hikey" at Camp Hillcroft in Billings, NY. I led the hiking program there for nine summers and had the time of my life. We visited places like Lake Minnewaska (below). The kids loved the nickname and loved my program. One of them even made me a T-shirt with my name on it.

Later I worked for Nature's Classroom and met Mrs. No Hike, a teacher who had agreed to chaperone her kids . . . as long as she didn't have to get on a trail.

It takes all kinds, I guess.

For the last three years, I served the Clallam County Family YMCA as Teen Program Director.  I led some great kids and boy, did we have some fun! We hiked, biked, paddled, rode horseback, and surfed from Canada to Mexico. We also worked hard on community service projects and learned about teamwork and trust. (Oh, and we had fun, too-- did I mention that?)
